Immune Systems
Why is it that some children are susceptible to catching the latest illness or disease that happens to be "going around" at any time, and others do not?
It is, in part because their immune systems are not yet fully mature and able to cope with the numerous germs they come in contact with.
Some immunity is provided from breastfeeding, but most children are weaned after just a few months, and a high proportion are bottle fed anyway. Exposure to other kids either at play or in kindergarten, or at school will inevitably result in their catching something, even if it's just a cold.
When they are very young they tend to explore their environment by putting things in their mouths.I remember my Mom telling me that she once found me with worms from the garden in my mouth! Yuk!!
But this is actually not a bad thing.
The good news is, the more your child is exposed, the stronger their immune systems will become, and their ability to fight off infection in the future.
As children grow, their immune systems must develop to protect them from all those nasty bacteria, microbes, parasites, viruses and toxins which they will, at some time in their lives, be exposed to. The only way to develop the immune systems effectively is to come into contact with those very same nastys, and recognise them as being Bad Germs. The system will then in the future be able to remember any particular germ it's already fought against and be ready and able to defeat it once again.
For this reason it's probably not such a good idea to overdo matters of hygiene. Let kids play outside in the dirt, it won't harm them, and it will more likely do them a lot of good.
Another reason for suffering regular illness in this day and age seems to be lack of fitness in children. A high proportion of kids seem to spend an awful lot of their time in front of the Telly, or the computer, or the playstation etc. with the consequence that they don't get the exercise which is really essential to their wellbeing. Encourage them to go out and meet other kids and explore the surroundings together. They could then develop socially as well as physically, also their creative and mental side could flourish, resulting in a well adjusted, healthy child.
Having said all that, the chances are that your youngster is, at some time, going to catch something unpleasant from one source or another.
When they do, there are various Natural ways to help them get over infections.
